Nordic Fantasy Graphic Novel Comments on LGBTQ+ Issues & Subjugation of Women

Heathen Volume 1 follows the story of Aydis - a viking, a warrior, an outcast, and a self-proclaimed heathen. Aydis is friend to the talking horse Saga, rescuer of the immortal Valkyrie Brynhild, and battler of demons and fantastic monsters. Aydis is a woman. Born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women, she is on a mission to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin. Named for Russ Manning, the artist best known for his work on the Tarzan and Star Wars, the Manning Award is given annually to a comics artist who, early in their career, shows a superior knowledge and ability in the art of creating comics. 10th Annual Inkwell Awards Winners Announced

The Inkwell Award recognizes excellence in the field of inking in American comics books. One winner was chosen in five categories based on comic-book work, including Erik Larsen (Savage Dragon), Walden Wong (Jupiter's Circle Volume 2), and Jonathan Glapion (Reborn).

Mike Wieringo Awards to Debut at Baltimore Comic-Con

The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards, the celebration for the creativity, skills, and fun of comics, will debut this year at Baltimore Comic-Con. Fans can participate in the nomination process along with a group of comics professionals, and the awards will be presented on Saturday, September 23.
